Fundamental Movement Skills (Formerly Active Movement)Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) is a SPARC initiative with a focus on children under the age of five. FMS's goal is to ensure that all children are exposed to quality movement experiences. Harbour Sport works to up skill and build confidence in parents, early childhood educators and community groups to provide these quality movement opportunities for under five year olds. FMS are not usually considered in the planning and execution of session plans for class or sport training. It has been scientifically proven that individuals who have a very good level of FMS development will be more successful in sports. Equally, increased participation in sport and other forms of physical activity are also thought to lead to enhancement of cognitive functioning (information processing), memory, concentration, behavior and academic achievement for children.
