The last 3 months has been a very busy time for the North Harbour Sports Council (NHSC) Executive with the focus being to ensure that sport has had a high profile with the Mayoral and Council candidates. The Executive are confidant this has been achieved through the following initiatives:

Commissioning of the North Harbour State of Sport report

Sport in the City Mayoral Debate

Mayoral debate responses posted on Utube and distributed to sport membership base pre elections

Mayoral interviews on Radio Sport’s Saturday morning Doug Out programme with Doug Golightly
It is now the challenge of sport to engage effectively under the new Auckland City structure. Doug Cole (NSCC) indicated to the NHSC Executive that “sport needs to be prepared to respond quickly to a council changes over the next 3 months” as over this period council will be bedding in new structures and assigning key positions that will impact on sport.
Key actions for the NHSC over the next month are:

Sending a letter to His Worship the Mayor – Len Brown reminding him of his commitment to a sport specific person within his mayoral office;

Letters to all councilors in the North Harbour region congratulating them on the election and providing them with a copy of the North Harbour State of Sport report; and
-
Meeting with all local boards to introduce the NHSC and promote the message that each board should has a member with a sport portfolio.

On Thursday May 12th Harbour Sport and the North Harbour Sports Council presented to a wide range of sports on effectively engaging with the Auckland City Council and Local boards.
