He Oranga Poutama is an initiative that was developed by SPARC (Sport and Recreation New Zealand) to get “more Maori, more active, more often”. My role is to advise, coordinate and promote the many programmes and initiatives that are available in the North Shore and Rodney districts to the Maori community. Some of these events are organised by Harbour Sport but many of them are run by other sport, health or community organisations in the area.

I am also here to give support to Maori organisations on any sporting issues they may have, and if I don’t know the answer, one of the staff here will be only too pleased to help.

The following is a Maori whakatauki (proverb): “Ma tini, ma mano ka rapa te whai” “With cooperation, anything can be achieved”.
