Fall Prevention Exercises
ACC Modified Tai Chi - For 65 year olds
Are you over 65 years of age? (Maori & Pacific Isaland 55 years).
Do you feel like your legs are not as strong as they were?
Is your balance deteriorating?
Exercises that increase leg strength & improve balance are important, as falls in older adults are often associated with muscle weakness, poor balance & loss of confidence. Falls are not a natural part of ageing.
Tai Chi exercise includes a series of gentle, fluid movements. Tai Chi benefits older people in fall prevention because it incorporates strength, balance, flexibility and concentration. Tai Chi is also known to be therapeutic for those with arthritis and a range of other conditions.
Always check with your doctor before starting a new exercise programme.
Beginners are FREE and are subsidised for a Period of 20 weeks by ACC. Participants will be encouraged to move into maintenance classes after the ACC subsidy period ends.
