Halberg Trust SportAccess

Gold Award for The Leisure Centre

Sir Murray Halberg presented the Sport Access Gold Award to Cherry Gilbert, Centre Manager of The Leisure Centre Hibiscus Coast and her team. In attendance was Deputy Mayor of Rodney, John Kiri kiri, The Leisure Centre staff, Halberg Trust staff, Harbour Sport staff and Rodney Councillors.

The Leisure Centre has been working through Sport Access for just over a year now and they always believed that they would apply for Gold. Cherry who has managed the facility for over 8-years now believes that this Award is a reflection of how strong her managers and team are at the facility.

With over 150 staff at the centre, Lynda and Tina have played a large role in coordinating this programme throughout the Centre and they pride themselves on their reputation of being accessible and inclusive to everyone in their community. Their Disability Action Plan was of a very high standard and will be used for Best Practice purposes for Sport Access in the future.

It has been a real pleasure working with Cherry and her wonderful team at The Leisure Centre. Their commitment to welcoming everyone into this community facility is admirable.
